Being from its bigger sister island Mallorca, I have to say that sometimes I feel a healthy envy of the success Menorca has had maintaining the essence of its land, with practically virgin and intact areas, escaping the overcrowding of many modern tourist destinations for a calmer and more family oriented tourism.
One of the best ways to discover the island is through the popular Camí de Cavalls, a historical path that goes around the island along the coast through dreamy coves, extensive pine forests, impressive cliffs and paradisiacal beaches. We start the route of the best hotels in Menorca at our favorite place, the Comitas Tramontana Park in Playas de Fornells. This resort located in the north of the island, just 600 meters from the beach of Cala Tirant, has been our chosen vacation spot for more years than I can remember.
Its design follows the aesthetics of typical Menorcan architecture, and is perfectly integrated with the environment. Offered here are cozy typical houses with white facades and brown tiles, wooden beamed ceilings and bright interiors, arranged around a large patio, a beautiful outdoor pool, and absolutely stunning sea views. The pool includes different areas for adults and children and is surrounded by a terrace-solarium equipped with sunbeds and umbrellas. If you’re feeling more adventurous, it’s also possible to walk the extra 30 meters and swim directly in the sea, where you can find some excellent snorkeling.
The resort has 85 newly renovated apartments with one, two or three bedrooms, all of them with private bathroom, living room with fully equipped kitchen, air conditioning and/or ceiling fans, satellite TV and a balcony with a private terrace.
Although the apartments offer the possibility to cook your own food in your own apartment kitchen, Comitas Tramontana Park also has a buffet-style restaurant with sea views where they offer breakfast, lunch and dinner services. Its facilities are complimented by a splendid team of professionals available 24 hours a day, free Wi-Fi Internet connection, live music shows in summer, car and bike rental and medical service.
And did we mention its sunsets! For us, there is no better way to end the day than watching the sun fall below the lighthouse of Cavalleria while savoring a typical “pomada” with Xoriguer gin in the hotel’s new La Terracita bar, a very special experience not to be missed.
Comitas Tramontana Park is, without a doubt, one of our favorite places on the island and it will be your perfect option if you are looking for a vacation in Menorca surrounded by nature and tranquility in one of the most beautiful areas of the island. It is also an ideal place for sea and nature lovers, as it has direct access to the sea and a wide range of activities in the area.
Comitas Floramar ****
Our second stop is Cala Galdana, a tourist area in the south of Menorca. It offers a more fully catered, family oriented atmosphere, with all kinds of services and activities such as supermarkets, beach bars, boat rentals, kayaks and other water sports, diving centers, car rentals, shops, etc., all just down the street from the front door.
With unbeatable views of the beach, at the top of Costa d´Es Mirador, you can find Comitas Floramar, a 4-star complex ideal for family vacations. It has 76 freshly renovated 1 and 2 bedroom apartments with air conditioning, distributed over 4 floors, each with a fully equipped kitchen, bathroom with shower, a spacious living room with sofa bed and a balcony with private terrace. After the rooms, the best area of the hotel is the outdoor area around the pool, where one can enjoy the spectacular views of Cala Galdana with delicious cocktails in hand, the latter coming from the expert and friendly mixologists at its bar-restaurant. Our recommendation is Camilo’s citrus negroni, which felt like it was made specifically to be enjoyed here, looking out over the Mediterranean from the hotel pool, just before taking part in the restaurants buffet-style service and show cooking.
Within the complex, you have a lot of leisure options such as a gym, jacuzzi, squash court and a huge children’s games room. You can also book different day trips at the hotel reception. If you feel like going for a walk, you could take a 30 minutes walk along the Camí de Cavalls to visit two of the island’smost amazing virgin beaches, Cala Macarella and Cala Macarelleta. Comitas Floramar is our option when we want to enjoy a few days with the family in one of the best areas to stay in Menorca, and are looking for a bit more action and easy creature comforts.
Comitas Isla del Aire ***
Our last stop is Comitas Isla de Aire, located in Menorca’s southwest, in Punta Prima. With a TripAdvisor score of 4.6/5, with almost 1,000 reviews, this complex of 60 apartments arranged around a large pool and its extensive garden areas is a perfect option when traveling with kids. Since each apartment has its own kitchen, you can prepare food or, if you prefer, enjoy the restaurant service in its Snack Bar or Lighthouse Bar, where live music performances frequently takes place.
Being so close to Mahón, it is the perfect accommodation to get to know the capital of Menorca, go shopping or enjoy any of the many services and activities that are available in this area . Next to Isla del Aire Apartments there is also a communal area with a 7-a-side football field, a beach volleyball court and several petanque courts. Likewise, the Comitas Isla de Aire offer a complete entertainment program for children and adults and a play area for children.
